The Trolley Problem: Self-Driving Cars

The Commission for the Implementation of the Code of Ethics in AI has released the first version of the Recommendation, dedicated to solving the “trolley problem”.

The working group to create a set of best practices for resolving ethical issues arising in the life cycle of AI, led by Elena Suragina (MTS) and Alexander Krainov (Yandex), developed a recommendation document containing a solution to the “trolley problem”. The published version of the Recommendation addresses questions about the permissibility of including ethical choices in an AI system about harming people, as well as the professional and moral choices of the developer.

Based on the voting results of the signatories of the Code of Ethics in the Field of AI, it was decided to finalize the current version of the Recommendation and conduct a more detailed study on the issue raised.
