Representatives from nearly two dozen Russian companies and institutions, as well as Nizhny Novgorod city administration, took part in a signing ceremony for the Code at the CIPR Conference. CIPR Conference in Nizhny Novgorod was attended by Deputy Prime Minister Dmitry Chernyshenko and Nizhny Novgorod Region Governor Gleb Nikitin. The ceremony was hosted by Andrei Neznamov, Head of the working group “Normative Regulation” of the AI Alliance, Managing Director of the Sberbank AI Regulation Center.
“More and more organizations among developers and users of machine learning-based products are expressing support for the Code’s provisions,” said Andrey Neznamov, “And we can only welcome the desire of Nizhny Novgorod companies to become part of the community for complying with modern rules for correct and fair application of AI.”
“Right now, CIPR has the highest concentration of specialists in the country who are involved in artificial intelligence. Let me remind you, AI is a very powerful field with a tremendous effort multiplier. In any application, it reaches 10 times,” said Deputy Prime Minister Dmitry Chernyshenko. “Last year, we saw a direct effect of 300 billion rubles from the introduction of AI in our industries. It is extremely important that these activities comply with strict standards of ethics for the use of these technologies.”
“The adoption of such a significant decision for society and the state in Nizhny Novgorod is the brightest event in the development of the entire domestic AI industry. Sustainable development implies self-regulation and adherence to certain ideological principles,” added Gleb Nikitin, Nizhny Novgorod Region Governor, “I am sure that we will continue to implement solutions in the AI field effectively, the voluntary restrictions that we will introduce will not prevent this. Following the Code of Ethics will also remind developers of their responsibilities.”
The signatories of the Code included the administration of Nizhny Novgorod, as well as 19 companies and institutions representing the region: Proton LLC, AVM Realty LLC, Lobachevsky State University, Neuro LLC, Artezio LLC, Computer Vision Laboratory LLC, ER-TOP LLC, ANO Center for Artificial Intelligence Gorky, LAD I T LLC, Intellivision LLC, Globus-IT LLC, Riverstart LLC, Nizhny Novgorod State Engineering and Economic Institute, Volgo-Vyatsky Bank PJSC Sberbank, Foxtank Motors LLC, Myagky Son LLC, PKF Quartz LLC, BHC Orgkhim Management Company JSC, Mattler LLC.
Dmitry Chernyshenko noted that the signing of the Code in Khanty-Mansiysk and Innopolis is also planned in the near future, also the ceremony will be held in the Far East in September. In addition, 20 federal agencies have also confirmed their readiness to join the Code.
The Code was developed and is being improved at the AI Alliance, together with representatives of the academic community and with the support of the Ministry of Economic Development and the Analytical Center for the Government. Among the first to sign the document were Sber, Yandex, MTS, VK, Gazprom Neft and the Russian Direct Investment Fund, as well as other leading companies and institutions. More than 60 organizations have signed up to the Code so far.
