AI Alliance members push for easier exports of AI technology

APRIL 2, 2024

Russian Prime Minister Mikhail Mishustin has signed a decree that triples the number of cases in which Russian civilian AI developments are not considered dual-use goods and therefore do not require an export license.

For two years, Alliance members have been working on reducing export barriers, developing the draft decree together with the Russian Federal Service for Technical and Export Control. The document had to reflect, on the one hand, the widest possible list of exceptions for civilian AI, and, on the other hand, take into account the current level of technology development.

An essential condition that confirmed the maturity and responsibility of leading AI developers in export control issues was the fact that they signed the Declaration on Responsible AI Export.

Thus, the Code of Ethics in the field of AI, the declarations on responsible export of AI solutions and on responsible development of generative AI once again confirm that the Alliance’s self-regulatory initiatives make it possible to achieve important governmental responses.
