Starting in September 2026, students in grades 5 through 9 will be able to study AI using new, specially developed textbooks.
The Russian Ministry of Education, by Order No. 973, has included the first comprehensive school course on artificial intelligence in the federal list of textbooks. The “Introduction to Artificial Intelligence” textbooks for grades 5–6, 7–8, and 9 were developed by companies in the AI Alliance and the Prosveshchenie publishing house. Starting this year, Russian schools will have access to a modern tool for systematically teaching students these innovative technologies.
All textbooks come with video materials and interactive quizzes on artificial intelligence. On a special digital educational platform developed for the project, students can complete practical assignments using Russian generative neural networks. The platform ensures complete safety (0+), is ad-free, and does not require authorization.
Along with the textbooks, teachers receive detailed teaching guidelines to help them thoroughly prepare for their lessons. Inclusion in the list confirms that the textbooks comply with the Federal State Educational Standards (FSES).
Alexander Vedyakhin, Chair of the Supervisory Board of the AI Alliance and First Deputy Chairman of the Management Board of Sberbank:
“Today, children begin interacting with artificial intelligence at a very early age. The educational materials created by members of the AI Alliance and the Prosveshchenie publishing house are practice-oriented: they teach children not just to mechanically use AI tools, but also to understand how they work, recognize their capabilities and limitations, and think critically. And students who develop a genuine interest in artificial intelligence will be able to gain deeper knowledge and begin developing their own solutions based on Sber’s neural network—GigaChat. Russia’s first school textbooks on AI are an investment in the future, an important contribution to the country’s competitiveness and the strengthening of its technological sovereignty.”
Valeria Vorobyova, CEO of the Artificial Intelligence Alliance:
“Textbooks on artificial intelligence for grades 5–9 represent a strategic step for the entire country toward fostering a generation of responsible AI users. These materials provide students with comprehensive knowledge: from the advantages of AI technologies to their limitations, as well as the rules for their safe and ethical use. The Artificial Intelligence Alliance sees its mission as ensuring that the use of AI technologies is informed and conscious, and that it contributes to the development of our country’s human potential.”
Daria Kozlova, Director of Education at Yandex:
“Today, artificial intelligence is being actively integrated into all areas of life, so knowing how to work with it is an essential skill for everyone. It’s important to develop competence, a culture, and ethics around the use of neural networks, and this must begin at an early age. Neural networks can be a valuable aid in the educational process; we see this in the results children achieve when working with our AI products. For example, our data shows that regular practice with these tools enables students to score more than 10 points higher on the Unified State Exam than the average score.”
Nadezhda Kolesnikova, Editor-in-Chief of the Prosveshchenie Publishing House:
“Artificial intelligence is already present in our daily and professional lives. Society has recognized the need to teach these new technologies not only to adults but also to children. The question immediately arose: who will be the authors of the new textbooks? Undoubtedly, they must be specialists and experts working in the field of AI. This is how our partnership with the Alliance in the field of artificial intelligence came about. We are confident that with the help of our textbooks, students will learn to use these technologies safely and to their advantage. Artificial intelligence is evolving, so we are confident that our collaboration with the Alliance will continue, and that as early as this year, Russian schools will be able to access a modern tool for systematically teaching students about modern technologies.”
Elena Kazakova, Doctor of Pedagogical Sciences:
“We created the ‘Introduction to Artificial Intelligence’ textbook series to work with schoolchildren to find an answer to the question: How can we become stronger, smarter, and more human in an era of rapid global development of artificial intelligence?”
